Peru are currently on a five-match unbeaten streak in all competitions, will start their Copa America campaign in strong shape. The Peruvian Football Federation hired veteran coach Jorge Fossati at the end of 2023, and he has since turned this team’s fortunes around.

Chile have scored eight goals in three games across all competitions under Ricardo Gareca which is more than they had scored in their eight prior meetings combined. Since 2020, La Roja have only lost once when they have scored the first goal; that one loss came earlier this year against France.

The Chileans will cherish their memories of winning the trophy at the 2016 Copa America, which was held in the US, even if they haven’t qualified for a World Cup since 2014.

Head To Head

La Roja defeated Peru 2-0 in their previous match from October of last year. However, the last time these teams faced each other at the Copa America, Los Incas defeated Chile 3-0 in the semifinals, ending Chile’s chance of winning a third consecutive title.

Key Performers

In Peru’s last match, Edison Flores scored the lone goal, drawing level with the likes of Cueva and Franco Navarro as the 10th all-time goal scorer. Gianluca Lapadula was Peru’s highest goal scorer at the previous Copa America tournament.

In Chile’s win over Paraguay, Victor Davila scored twice, his second and third goals for the national team. Vargas scored the other goal, his 42nd in a Chilean shirt and second all-time behind record leader Alexis Sanchez (51).

Gareca developed numerous players that are currently in the Peruvian lineup, thus he would have an idea on how to beat his former team. We believe that Chile will have a slight advantage going into this match since we think they have played more formidable opponents prior to this tournament.
