After Simeone gave him a break, following the passing of his mother Marcela Martinez, the Argentina international missed the 2-1 victory away at Rayo Vallecano on April 9.

Simeone applauded the Rayo supporters for their courteous behavior towards Correa and his family in Vallecas, where the tragic news played a significant role in the game.

Simeone provided an update on the situation and noted that Correa has finished a full week of training and is prepared to rejoin the Los Rojiblancos squad.

“Correa is very important for us. He will start and I can’t imagine anything other than  good game from him”, as per reports from Diario AS.

“He scored against Betis, then he couldn’t join us at Rayo. He played 70 minutes in the Besiktas friendly, and he is with his teammates at a difficult time, and he wants to play.”

Correa has played a significant part for Simeone despite not starting games frequently this season; he has made 16 La Liga replacement appearances. Correa has scored six league goals thus far.

Axel Witsel, a veteran of Atletico Madrid, has publicly stated that despite his little playing time, he is happy at the club.

Witsel, who joined Diego Simeone’s team last summer on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund, lost his spot in the starting lineup after beginning the season as a regular center defender.

With only one start since January 2023, he has largely evolved into a rotational option for Simeone. His father, Thierry Witsel, recently remarked that his son struggled with being benched, according to Diario AS.
