Costa Rica 2022: Disappointment for USWNT As Japan, The Netherlands Progress To Quarter Final

The United States of America Women’s National Team (USWNT U-20) crashed out of Costa Rica 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after a 1-3 loss to Japan in the final Group D game on Thursday.

Japan had defeated The Netherlands (1-0) and Ghana (2-0) while USWNT U-20 defeated Ghana 3-0 and lost 3-0 to The Netherlands and needs a positive result in the final group game to progress to the quarter-final.
Manaka Matsukubo scored the first goal of the game for Japan in the 55th minute.
Aoba Fujino set up Shinomi Koyama for Japan’s second goal in the 65th minute.
USWNT U-20 tried to force a comeback as Simone Jackson pulled a goal back but the goal couldn’t rescue the team from its second defeat of the tournament.

Japan had the last laugh as Haruna Tabata converted the team’s third goal in the 84th minute.
The Netherlands defeated Ghana 4-1 to join Japan in the quarter-final.
Liz Rijsbergen (brace), Ziva Henry, and Marit Auee scored for The Netherlands while Doris Boaduwaa pulled a goal back for Ghana.
Japan top the group with a maximum of nine points from three games ahead of The Netherlands (6 points), USA (3 points), and Ghana (0 point).

Nigeria’s Falconets maintained its perfect record at Costa Rica 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup but had to end its clean sheet record with a 3-1 win over Canada in the final Group C game.

Esther Onyenezide’s brace, both coming from the penalty spot and Chioma Olise’s late goal ensured that Nigeria’s 100% record remains intact.
Kaila Novak had given Canada an early lead but Nigeria’s strong force bounced back with three goals.
Esther Mbakem-Niaro’s 74th-minute goal lifted France to a 1-0 win against South Korea.
Nigeria and France progressed to the quarter-final where they will face The Netherlands and Japan respectively.
