Costa Rica 2022: Group A Teams Book Semi Final Spots

The two (2) teams that qualified from Group A have also made it to the semi-final of the ongoing Costa Rica 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup becoming the first two teams to make it to the Last Four.

Brazil edged Colombia 1-0 at the Estadio National de Costa Rica, San Jose with 7,874 spectators in attendance on Sunday to qualify for the semi-final.

Tarciane dos Santo’s 26th-minute penalty was enough to book a semi-final spot for Brazil which also maintained the team’s unbeaten run in the tournament.

The South American side finished second in Group A behind Spain with two wins over Australia (2-0) and host, Costa Rica (5-0), and a draw with Spain.

Brazil will face the winner of the game between Japan and France in the semi-final.

The result ended Colombia’s unbeaten run and journey at the tournament.

Colombia had defeated joint record holders, Germany (1-0), and played out draws with Mexico (0-0), and New Zealand (2-2) to top Group B before its latest defeat to Brazil.

Group A leaders, Spain also joined Brazil in the semi-final after pipping Mexico 1-0 in the quarter-final on Saturday.

Sevilla’s Inma Gabarro’s 25th-minute penalty propelled Spain to the semi-final as the European side also remain unbeaten in the tournament.

Spain has won three (3) of its four (4) games, defeating Costa Rica (5-0), Australia (3-0), and Mexico (1-0) after a 0-0 draw with Brazil.

The team will face either Nigeria or The Netherlands in the semi-final.
