Costa Rica 2022: Host Bow To Australia Superiority

Host of the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Costa Rica started its campaign with a 1-3 defeat to Australia in the early hours of Thursday.

Costa Rica had history within their gasp in Group A. The host nation were leading 1-0 during the first half at the Estadi National in San Jose to the delight of over 20,000 fans who had previously been treated to a firework display.
The official tournament anthem “Vamos Juntas” featuring Rebecca Malavassi, Tony Succar, Isabella Castro Gomez, and the female choir of the Franz Liszt School, was performed live ahead of the host nation’s match against Australia.
The song has been written to send out a strong and inspiring message of empowerment, unity, and solidarity.

Alexandra Pinell had given Costa Rica the lead in the 19th minute before two first-half goals from Sarah Hunter and Bryleeh Henry cancelled out the host’s early lead.
Australia turned the match around before the break, however, leaving Las Ticas still in search of their first point after seven attempts with Kirsty Fenton’s 72nd-minute goal putting the nail in Costa Rica’s coffin.

Brazil and Spain played out a goalless draw before the match between Costa Rica and Australia.

“The opening game is still all about getting a feel of the tournament and finding your rhythm.” Says Spanish goalkeeper Adriana Nanclares after the game.
“We played a good match, fought hard, and came up against some strong opposition. It ended up being quite a battle.” She concluded.
