Costa Rica 2022: Spain Dethrone Japan to Win FIFA U-20 Women’s Title

Spain on Monday ensured that the repeat of the last FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup final in 2018 where Japan defeated them (1-3) didn’t occur but instead inflicted a 3-1 defeat on the Asian side to win the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Inma Gabarro scored her eighth goal of the tournament to open the scoring for Spain from Ane Elexpuru’s assist in the 12th minute.
Andrea Medina set up Salma Paralluelo for Spain’s second goal ten minutes later.
Salma Paralluelo in the 27th minute scored her second goal of the game which put the game beyond Japan’s reach from the penalty spot.

The holders also has a fight of their own, scoring a goal in the 47th minute from Suzu Amano but the Spanish side earned a deserved win to clinch the title.
The win ensured that Spain is the second European side to win the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after Germany.
The final game witnessed a new record for a women’s football match in Costa Rica with 29,891 spectators.

Ana Clara Consani’s early goal in the ninth minute for Brazil was canceled by Rosa van Gool in the 21st minute.
Tarciane dos Santo missed a 31st-minute penalty which should have restored Brazil’s lead before the interval.
She redeemed her penalty miss in the 59th minute, scoring Brazil’s second goal before converting her second penalty to extend the South American lead in the 79th minute.
Giovanna Fernandes converted Brazil’s fourth goal with a minute to the end of the game.
