Costa Rica, Australia To Kick Off 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup

Host, Costa Rica will face next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup co-host, Australia in the first match of the 2022 FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup.

This was confirmed after the conclusion of the draw for this year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Thursday at the Teatro Nacional in San José, the capital of the Central American nation.

The opening game between Costa Rica and Australia will take place on August 10, 2022.

Costa Rica, Australia, Spain, and Brazil were drawn into Group A.

Three times winners, Germany is in Group B alongside Colombia, New Zealand, and Mexico.

All group phase and quarter-final matches will be played at the Alejandro Morera Soto, which is a hybrid of natural and synthetic grass, called stitched grass.

The semi-final, final and third place matches will take place at the Estadio Nacional.

African representatives at the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup were drawn in Group C and D respectively.

Two times beaten finalist, Falconets of Nigeria will face 2018 host, France, Canada, and Korea Republic in Group C.

Ghana is in Group D alongside Japan, the Netherlands, and the United States of America (USA).

The Japanese team are the only side to win all FIFA Women’s World Cup competitions (FIFA Women’s World Cup, FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, and FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup).
