Could Leeds United Offer A Lifeline To This Chelsea Fringe Player?
Written By Albert Echatah
Despite their historic rivalry, Chelsea and newly-promoted Leeds United could benefit each other through a summer transfer. Leeds, aiming to strengthen their squad for the Premier League, are prioritizing new goalscorers.

While they’ve already signed Lukas Nmecha, they might not be done yet. According to transfer specialist Graeme Bailey, Leeds United are interested in a loan move for Chelsea’s promising 19-year-old striker, Marc Guiu.

Guiu joined Chelsea from Barcelona last summer and is considered to have a bright future, suggesting Chelsea could be open to a temporary move to aid his development.
Bailey told Leeds United News: “I think a loan signing is possible. Marc Guiu at Chelsea is one they’ve looked at as well. They will be doing a few bits. It’s still the middle of July and they’re not panicking.”
Last season, Chelsea spent only £5.2 million to bring in Guiu, and he immediately began demonstrating his worth. He scored six goals in 16 total appearances, notably achieving a hat-trick during a 5-1 Europa Conference League win over Shamrock Rovers.
Guiu also netted two goals against FC Astana and one against FC Noah. He saw brief action in three Premier League matches and played in two Club World Cup games.

Guiu clearly has high potential, shown by his impressive European performances, but he won’t develop without consistent playing time, which Chelsea is unlikely to offer. Even after Guiu’s hat-trick last season, Blues manager Enzo Maresca stated: “Marc is improving a lot, to be honest. He is doing fantastic. Day after day he is more ready for that kind of game.”
When asked about his gametime, Maresca added: “Sometimes the decision I take is because I see something. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s not. But Marc, day after day, is more ready.”
Chelsea have already strengthened their squad this summer with the additions of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and Joao Pedro from Brighton. Both players are expected to be ahead of Guiu in the team’s hierarchy, meaning the young Spaniard needs to avoid being a reserve for the season.
