COVID-19 : Two Atletico Madrid players test positive
Two Atletico Madrid players have tested positive for COVID-19 according to a statement released on the club’s website today.

Atleti, who are scheduled to play against RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in four days confirmed that the results were discovered after “all members of the first team and the club’s expedition to Lisbon underwent PCR tests”, a mandatory requirement for clubs to participate in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The statement confirmed that both players have been isolated in their respective homes and the results have been swiftly communicated to the Spanish and Portuguese health authorities, UEFA, the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the Portuguese Federation and the Higher Sports Council. It also stated that “the protocol foreseen for these cases have been activated” which requires them to carry out new tests on all members of the travelling squad.
The identities of both players are unknown as the club asked for “utmost respect” with regards to their identities but it could mean that Atleti could be without two of their key players when they line up to face Leipzig on Thursday.
