Less than a month after winning Matchday 7’s top award for a hat-trick performance in a 3-1 victory over St. Louis CITY SC, Arango scored two goals and added an assist for RSL in Saturday’s 4-0 thrashing at Chicago Fire FC.

The 29-year-old Colombian is first in the league with 14 goal contributions (8g/6a) and leads the MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi race with eight goals.

Furthermore, Arango made history by being the first player from Salt Lake to be nominated twice for Player of the Matchday in the first ten Matchdays of a season since Nick Rimando in 2014.

Arango, who joined the RSL from Liga MX side Pachuca midway through the previous season, was one of four players to win the honor at least four times since the start of 2021. Arango played with LAFC from 2021 to 22. The remaining three are Raúl Ruidíaz of Seattle, Hany Mukhtar of Nashville (seven), and Julían Carranza of Philadelphia (four).

On Saturday night, Matchday 10 will resume with Arango and Real Salt Lake traveling to the Philadelphia Union, who are still unbeaten.

Diego Gomez’s ankle injury versus Nashville SC has been a major blow to Inter Miami head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s team.

The 21-year-old was carried off the ground in tears after suffering the injury during the first half of the game against the Coyotes. Gomez, who left Libertad of Paraguay to join Miami last summer, has had a fantastic season. Prior to the injury, he had two goals and five assists in MLS games.

“Gomez suffered a high-grade ankle sprain in the first half of Inter Miami’s win over Nashville SC on Saturday. He has begun the recovery process and is expected to be sidelined for approximately six weeks,” the club said in a release.
