Atlanta enters the summer transfer season (July 18 to August 14) when the Greek international leaves for an estimated $10 million, freeing up a space for a Designated Player.

In 43 games for Atlanta across all competitions, Giakoumakis, 29, recorded 24 goals and seven assists.

Giakoumakis first arrived in February 2023 from Scotland’s Celtic FC. Last season, he assisted in the replacement of club great Josef Martínez and won All-Star, Best XI, and Newcomer of the Year awards.

“We’re grateful for Giorgos’ contributions during his time at the club and we wish him the best moving forward,” Atlanta VP and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a release.

“This transfer illustrates the nature of operating in a global marketplace. With a lot of season left to play, we plan to strengthen the group during the upcoming Summer Transfer Window.”
