She hasn’t been in the spotlight in recent months as she awaits the arrival of her first child, but Crystal Dunn got a wonderful surprise at Thorns training this week.

Dunn was awarded the Concacaf Player of the Year award for her performance in 2021.
Dunn started all six matches in the USWNT’s bronze-winning Tokyo Olympic campaign.

As Portland general manager (and former Concacaf head of women’s football) Karina Leblanc presented her with the trophy, Dunn couldn’t hide her surprise.
“I really was so surprised that I won this,” Dunn said. “I’m here to let other women who look like me know that their dreams matter and their dreams are achievable.”
The moment also served as a reminder that Dunn has been training with the Thorns throughout her. pregnancy, with expectations to return to the field as soon as she can.
“Now, about to be a mom, I’m all about chasing new perspectives and evolving myself as a person and a player,” she said.
