Cyriel Dessers Proud to Fulfil AFCON Dream Ahead of Super Eagles’ Tanzania Clash
Nigeria forward Cyriel Dessers has described his inclusion in Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as the fulfilment of a long-held dream, ahead of the team’s opening match against Tanzania.

Nigeria will face the Taifa Stars in their Group C opener, and Dessers says representing the country on Africa’s biggest football stage is a moment of pride for him and his family.
“It’s been a dream for many years to go to a big tournament with the Super Eagles,” Dessers said.
The striker also highlighted the depth and quality of Nigerian forwards across world football, noting that competition for places has always been intense.
“There is a lot of quality in strikers in past years and now in the present moment. Nigerian strikers are doing well all over Europe and Africa,” he added.
Dessers believes his call-up is a reward for perseverance and hard work, especially after staying patient through previous campaigns.

“I take pride in being here. It’s based on the persistence I showed last year,” he said.
“It’s a proud moment for me and my family.”
