Under Thomas Tuchel, Newcastle United star Dan Burn believes there is no reason why he cannot play in the 2026 World Cup.

The 6′ 7″ centre-back dominated with the ball and displayed his skills for the most of the 2-0 victory over Albania. Burn, a Blyth warrior, had a solid start, save for two tired moments in the second half.

The Newcastle United star is also poised to play against Latvia on Monday night at Wembley in Tuchel’s second game as manager. After the final whistle, Burn told reporters in the mixed zone: “It was an amazing night to walk out at Wembley and sing the national anthem.

“To get to start a game for England is something that I dreamt of when I was a kid. I’m gutted I didn’t score again.

“Maybe I am being a bit greedy because I have had a pretty good week. It was a good performance, Albania are a pretty decent team and put a lot of people behind the ball.

“As a first game under a new manager I think it was pretty good.”

Burn nearly scored his first goal in the first half after hitting the crossbar following a corner kick by Declan Rice.

Burn also said: “Yes I did. Unfortunately it didn’t go in. When I score I go on a little run, so I feel now whenever there’s a corner coming in I am going to get to it and at least hit the target so hopefully I get one soon!

“I have played a lot of games so I feel pretty confident. I have trained pretty well and settled into the group quickly.

“It helped playing here at the weekend it settled my nerves.”
