Written by Patrick Echatah

FC Barcelona and Dani Alves will agree on a contract extension for one more year, according to the latest news from Spain.

More Details

The veteran right-back joined the club in November of last year on a deal that runs until the end of the season, with an option for a second season. Barcelona has now decided to extend him for another year, according to the report.

Alves, who will turn 39 in May, had returned to the Camp Nou after a five-year absence. He agreed to contract for the bare minimum wage set by La Liga.

He has one goal and two assists in three games thus far, demonstrating that he is physically fit enough to play at the highest level despite his late age. The team is pleased with his performances as well as his impact in the locker room.

Xavi, his manager and former colleague, has demonstrated that he understands how to employ him now that his playing style has evolved as a result of his age. When the team possesses the ball, he is usually changed to positions comparable to those of a midfielder.

Alves is known for being a humorous persona, but he is serious about his work. He takes good care of his body, ensuring that he gets enough rest and eats well. He is regarded as a role model for younger athletes. He was also professional when Xavi informed him that he would not be registered for the UEFA Europa League.

Xavi and Jordi Cruyff, Barcelona’s sporting advisor, are said to have traveled to Germany on Tuesday to meet with Erling Haaland.

According to L’Esportiu, the Norwegian is in Munich rehabilitating from a muscular ailment that has kept him out since the end of January and met with the Barcelona duo.

Disappointingly, the report doesn’t tell us much more other than Barca are “doing their best to stay in the fight for his signing” despite interest from other clubs.

The report mentions Real Madrid and Manchester City as the two other clubs in the race and reckon Pep Guardiola has already spoken to the striker about his future.
