David Alaba is yet to find his rhythm since returning from an ACL injury that kept him out of action for close to a year. Then Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti gradually eased him back into action last season but the Austria captain couldn’t find his form not to mention knocks and illness that kept him out of some games. It was expected that he would be fully fit and ready to participate in the Club World Cup albeit, reverse is the case with the club providing an injury update on him today.

More Details

In a troubling update for Real Madrid, the club has officially confirmed that veteran defender David Alaba has sustained a new injury setback. The Austrian international had only recently resumed individual training following knee surgery in May to address meniscus damage.

However, just as he was making progress toward recovery, Alaba has now been sidelined once again, casting doubt over his immediate return to full fitness.

In an official statement today, the club revealed that David Alaba has undergone some tests which makes him unavailable for a period of time which wasn’t revealed.

“Following medical tests carried out on our player David Alaba by Real Madrid’s medical services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the soleus muscle in his left leg. His progress will be monitored.”

David Alaba has faced a challenging stretch over the past 18 months, beginning with a serious ACL injury in December 2023 that significantly disrupted his playing time. Although he is expected to return to full fitness in time for the upcoming season, uncertainty still surrounds his future at the club, with the possibility of a departure not entirely ruled out.
