David Moyes’ men regained the lead through a Pablo Fornals goal before Zouma doubled the advantage from a corner. Origi would score later on to give Liverpool hope but the Hammers held on to claim victory and move to third on the log and ahead of Liverpool.

Speaking to the club’s website after the game, an excited Moyes was full of superlatives for his team and described his side as “a great club.”

“Hey, look, the players are outstanding at the moment. We want to keep the belief going, we don’t want it to be a small thing we do, we need to keep it going.”

“We scored a couple of really good goals from set pieces, we scored a counter-attack goal too and I thought our second half performance was really good.”

“We’ve got a great Club, we really have, and we have a Club which I said right at the start that had so much room for improvement and development.

“That first has to come on the pitch because supporters want to see what’s happening on the pitch. We brought in a few players, which have made a big difference. The staff too, Kev and Nev (assistant coaches Kevin Nolan and Paul Nevin), the boys have helped get another couple in from set pieces again today so it’s great work.” He added.

This could be the best run of Moyes’ career since he left Everton. He’s brought spark to the Olympic Stadium and has made the Hammers faithfuls start believing again.

Meanwhile…

Moyes did admit they played below par in the first half but got back to life in the second to produce a performance worth occupying the third spot on the log.

The Hammers still have a lot to improve on if they want to sustain the momentum. They have to improve on finishing and build the mentality of a team that’s pushing for laurels just as their ambition outlines.

“We scored a couple of really good goals from set pieces, we scored a counter-attack goal too and I thought our second half performance was really good.”

“Maybe we had chances to score more goals too which we didn’t finish off – the point is we’re getting four or five good opportunities against Liverpool and that must mean we’re doing something right.”

“Understandably we had to defend too. In the first half we weren’t so good, but we were better in the second half. We still had to defend and when we led 3-2 it was nip and tuck. They missed a good chance to make it three-each, but we’re a good team. The players are good players and I believe we can try to keep it going.”
