It may not have been the desired result for Inter Milan in the final of the Champions League, but they still have to move on and deal with others issues relating to the club, starting with the future of their manager, who has consistently been linked with a move away from the club despite the recent statement from Beppe Marotta.

Immediately after the final when he was interviewed, Simone Inzaghi seems to cast doubt on his future at the club with his replies as he said that there’s too much disappointment to talk about the future right now. When was asked whether he expects to still be Inter coach at the Club World Cup next month.

“I don’t know how to answer that last question now,” he admitted.“I came out here to speak out politeness and respect. Because this is a loss that makes me sad. You come out of defeats stronger,” Inzaghi then said. “It seems like a cliché, but we’ve been through it before and then we won the league.”

“There’s bitterness. But we have to keep our heads up, knowing that we were up against a team that deserved to win.” He further added. Consequently, the club is due to sit down and talk with the former Lazio manager regarding his future in the dugout.

This is on the heels of a strong interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and potentially also an unnamed Premier League club. They’re expected to meet with the coach at the beginning of this week, between Monday and Wednesday, to discuss their futures together.

Inzaghi and his side are coming in off the back of the heaviest ever Champions League final defeat. Currently, he has a contract that expires next summer, in 2026, and has also been offered a staggering set of personal terms by Al-Hilal in an attempt to lure him away from Serie A.

There could also be a surprise option for Inzaghi in the Premier League, with one English club potentially slipping under the radar, although they are not expected to match Al-Hilal’s offer financially, but it could be a good option if the idea is to remain in Europe.

Even though Inzaghi and Inter have enjoyed a solid working relationship over the last four seasons, it is becoming increasingly difficult to see them continue together. Still, they’re expected to sit down and talk about their future over the next few days, which could still go either way.

In a related development, Inzaghi reluctantly accepted an extra-large Tapiro d’Oro trophy the day after the Champions League final. The Tapiro d’Oro (Golden Tapir) is a novelty award handed out to high-profile individuals who have recently suffered some sort of public embarrassment.

This is part of the satirical news programme Striscia la Notizia. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alvaro Morata are among the Serie A representatives to have received the award so far this season. On Sunday, less than 24 hours after the final as he was presented with the Tapiro d’Oro award while on his way home.

He reluctantly accepted the award, but was in no real mood for jokes as he did admit that the Nerazzurri ‘did badly’, and that PSG ‘deserved to win’. “I’ve always been a sportsman, defeat hurts but we accept it,” he added.
