LAFC secured a 2-0 series win against Austin, Texas, in the first round.

More Details

This victory sets up a Western Conference semi-final match against the Vancouver Whitecaps, featuring German star Thomas Muller, who had previously eliminated FC Dallas on Saturday.

The highly effective scoring pair of Bouanga and Son once again carried the team’s offense. Their partnership immediately paid off when Bouanga set up Son for the first goal of the match in the 21st minute.

The South Korean superstar finished a counter-attack by sprinting up the left flank before striking a hard, low shot with his right foot.

LAFC quickly extended their lead to 2-0. Just three minutes after their first, another deadly LAFC counter-attack concluded with Son assisting Denis Bouanga, who scored in the 44th minute by placing his shot into the bottom left corner as Austin’s keeper, Brad Stuver, rushed to recover.

The score became 2-1 right before the break when Austin FC was awarded a penalty, which Dani Pereira narrowly converted past LAFC keeper Hugo Lloris in first-half stoppage time.

Despite a handball by Bouanga resulting in a 39th-minute penalty, Lloris preserved the score with a diving save against Myrto Uzuni.

The match concluded with LAFC adding a fourth goal in second-half stoppage time, scored by sub Ebobisse.
