The Dutch midfielder is willing to get back to his old form that made United splash the cash on him.

Manchester United paid a fee rising up to £40m to Ajax Amsterdam for the transfer of Donny Van de Beek in 2020.

The midfielder however is far from justifying the huge fee sacrificed by the Red Devils as he has struggled to retain his fine form from three seasons ago where he got to the semi finals of the UCL with Ajax.

The 25 year old went from 19 Premier League appearances in his first season to just eight in his second, he’s however only seen 19 minutes of league action this season spread across three cameo appearances.

He currently finds himself behind Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes all of whom are the favourite starters for the manager.

The little hope he had at the appointment of his former manager as the club’s coach has done nothing to improve his chances and he has now offered himself to playing in any available role in order to be considered.

“Everyone wants to play, but you have to show it and you need to improve yourself every day to be in the first XI. A club like United needs many options and needs a big squad to play and to have a good season. He told the club media.

“I switch sometimes – sometimes I play in the ’10’, sometimes in the ‘8’, in Ajax sometimes I play in the ‘6’, so I can play in different positions. There’s been some great defending, in particular, from back to front.”

“I’m really working hard for it, so I’m positive. I’ll do my best. The last part of last season, I was injured, so I missed a lot. I could feel that in the first few weeks of pre-season, but now I’ve started to feel better and better. So I’m really positive.” He concluded.

Meanwhile…

The Dutch international also added that his compatriot is the best fix for Manchester United for the kind of football they want to play.

Both men worked together at Ajax where they had considerable success and only missed out on the Champions League final to an injury time goal from Tottenham’s Lucas Moura.

“He will be really good for the club. I think in terms of the way the club is, and how they want to play, he’s a good mix for what they want as a manager. I’m really looking forward to it. We had big success at Ajax at that time – the semi-final of the Champions League, and we won trophies. So it was a special time. Now we are here, with a new chapter and a new challenge, and of course we want to do the same here.”

Ten Hag started his Manchester United reign on a negative note as he lost each of his first league games to Brighton and Brentford respectively before picking up to win the next four.

The additions of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to the midfield should help to raise the quality and output from a department where the club has struggled in the last few seasons.
