Doubts Cloud Real Madrid’s Veteran Exit As Carlo Ancelotti Pleads Continuity

Written by Olaleye Oluwadamilola

Nacho Fernandez, a veteran defender for Real Madrid, seems to be having second thoughts about leaving the club this summer. Last summer and even a week ago, his departure appeared certain. However, with his contract expiring and a renewal offer on the table, doubts have crept in.

More Details

Initially set on a move to Major League Soccer, recent developments have stalled those plans. While Cristiano Ronaldo’s Saudi club Al-Nassr showed interest, it wasn’t an option for Nacho’s family.

Adding to the confusion, manager Carlo Ancelotti has renewed his efforts to convince Nacho to stay. Their relationship reportedly hit a rough patch earlier, with Nacho feeling Ancelotti favored Aurelien Tchouameni at center-back.

While the lack of playing time initially pushed Nacho towards the exit door, recent celebrations and dwindling options have sown seeds of doubt. The jubilant atmosphere of the Champions League semi-finals and final, coupled with limited transfer offers, have caused him to reconsider.

Ancelotti, sensing this hesitation, urged Nacho not to make a rash decision during the final’s celebrations. He has now doubled down on his efforts to retain the captain. Ancelotti values Nacho’s on-field contributions as well as his leadership off it – a positive influence for the young players at Valdebebas.

Nacho’s 45 appearances this season were crucial, but injuries to key players played a role. If David Alaba and Eder Militao return to full fitness (a gamble, some might say), Nacho’s playing time could become limited once more.

While leaving Real Madrid might not lead to the same level of excitement elsewhere, as Toni Kroos would argue, it could be the perfect time for a fresh start.

Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid turned sour for PSG fans on Tuesday. The star forward took aim at his former club’s leadership, accusing them of “violence” during contract negotiations. He also revealed threats of being frozen out for a year if he didn’t renew.

Mbappe, clearly “excited” and “liberated” by his move to Real Madrid, painted a negative picture of his time at PSG. The French giants responded swiftly, calling his comments “lamentable” and suggesting a lack of “class” from their former top scorer.

Further complicating the situation, reports suggest PSG hasn’t paid Mbappe since March. This move, seemingly aimed at pressuring him to forfeit a hefty loyalty bonus, could backfire spectacularly.
