Drug Test Saga: Mudryk Handed Provisional Suspension From Football

Since November 28, when he scored and finished the ninety minutes in a 2-0 Conference League victory against Heidenheim, the 23-year-old has not been spotted in the starting lineup.

Since then, the Ukraine international’s absence from squads between December 4 and December 15 has been ascribed to illness. Instead, the £89 million man has been made unavailable after being informed of a failed drug test, according to a report by Zorya Londonsk.

According to the report, a test conducted at the end of October revealed the presence of a prohibited drug. Only the ‘A’ sample has been opened thus far. One of the ‘B’ samples is scheduled to be opened in the next several days.

The Football Association have not yet released an official statement addressing the reported issue. If it becomes out that the ‘B’ sample likewise contained a prohibited substance, Mudryk can be suspended from football while his case is appealed.

Chelsea have subsequently issued an official statement to confirm the current development in response to the report that surfaced late Monday night.

It read: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm the Football Association recently contacted our player Mykhailo Mudryk concerning an adverse finding in a routine urine test.

“Both the club and Mykhailo fully support the FA’s testing programme and all our players, including Mykhailo, are regularly tested.

“Mykhailo has confirmed categorically that he has never knowingly used any banned substances. Both Mykhailo and the club will now work with the relevant authorities to establish what has caused the adverse finding.

“The club will not be commenting any further.”
