Egypt: Al Ahly, Zamalek Maintain Perfect Start

Al Ahly maintained their winning start to the 2021-22 season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bank Al Ahly in the second matchday of the Egyptian Premier League.

The Reds had opened their campaign with an easy 4-0 victory over Ismaily, the same as Bank Al Ahly, who had defeated El-Gaish 3-0.

Al Ahly kept searching for the winning goal, which finally came through substitute Mohamed Sherif after following up on Amr El-Sulya long-range effort in the 61st minute.
With just a few minutes to go, Hamdi Fathi hit a screamer from distance, but his effort his the post for the game to end in a 1-0 victory for Al Ahly.

Zamalek have made it two wins from their opening two games following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Tala’a El-Gaish on Sunday afternoon.

The Whites had won their opening game 2-0 against ENPPI, while El-Gaish were humiliated after a 3-0 defeat by Bank Al Ahly.
Zamalek didn’t wait long to break the deadlock after Omar El-Said had won his side a penalty after just 19 minutes, which was turned home by Ahmed Sayed Zizo.
El-Gaish tried to come back into the game but suffered a huge blow as their target man John Antwi was forced off due to an injury and was replaced by Ahmed Zola.

And as the military club tried to pull one back in the second-half, Ahmed Sayed Zizo found Omar El-Said with an impressive ball for the towering striker to lob the ball over Mohamed Bassam with a lobbing header.
Zamalek kept dominating the rest of the game, but couldn’t add more to their tally and eventually settled for the 2-0 victory to sit top of the table with six points from two games.
Patrice Carteron’s men will now prepare for the Cairo derby against Al Ahly, set to take place on Friday, November 5.
