On Sunday, Al Ahly defeated one of Egyptian football powerhouse FC Pyramids 2-1 to book a place in the semifinal of this year’s Egyptian Cup.

Al Ahly entered the game without a number of key players due to injury, including Ahmed Abdelkader, Percy Tau, Hussein El-Shahat, and Ali Maaloul.

Portuguese outfit Gil Vicente has ruled out the departure of head coach Ricardo Soares amid rumours of a potential Al Ahly move.

Reports have emerged on Sunday linking Gil Vicente head coach Ricardo Soares to fill in the vacant head coach position at Al Ahly.

Portuguese news outlet A Bola has revealed that Soares has agreed on terms with Al Ahly and will arrive in Cairo in just a few days to lead the team.

Soares is coming off a historic season that saw him guiding the Barcelos-based club to the fifth place in the Primeira Liga, their highest-ever league finish, which secured them a spot in the Europa Conference League.

However, Gil Vicente has rebuffed the news to OJogo, stressing they haven’t been contacted by Al Ahly over Soares and adding that the coach still has year left in his current contract.

The report added that the release contract in Soares’ contract is valued at around €250,000, which will be paid by the Cairo giants should they reach a deal with the coach.
