The hugely awaited 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finally started at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpe on Saturday.

The opening match was a joyous one for the host, Cote D’Ivoire which recorded a 2-0 victory over Guinea Bissau.

The visitors started the game with the purpose of getting an early goal but it was the host that got the first corner kick which wasn’t fruitful.

Shortly after the corner in the fourth minute Seko Mohamed Fofana scored the first goal of the tournament as he raced through the defence before hitting the opener.

The Djurtus got two chances to equalise in the first period but couldn’t capitalise on the opportunities.

The Ivorian also had their chances from Fofana who should have doubled the lead but hit the crossbar instead.
