England’s senior women’s national team had to come from two goals down to secure a 3-2 win over the Netherlands in their fifth group match of the maiden UEFA Women’s Nations League in Wembley on Friday.

The European champions needed to win their last two group games to stand any chance of topping the group which will brighten their chances of making it to the latter stage and ultimately qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Juventus midfielder, Lineth Beerensteyn scored two goals in the first half to give the visitors a two-goal lead.

Georgia Stanway pulled a goal back for Sarina Wiegmann’s side in the 59th minute.

Lauren Hemp who made her 50th appearance for the English side during the game equalised in the 61st minute.

With 29 minutes to score the winner, England were able to find the winner in the additional minutes of the second half thanks to a late goal from Ella Toone.

The Netherlands tops the log with 9 points ahead of England with nine points while Belgium has eight points.

England’s chances of topping the group and having the chance of qualifying for the Olympics via the Nations League depended on their result against Scotland on Dcember 5 as well as the Netherlands having to drop points against Belgium on the same day. England needs a win and hope the Netherlands drop points in the final group game.

The top teams from each group of League A will make it to the next stage in the tournament with the finalists qualifying for the Olympics while the third-placed team have the chance of qualifying should France reach the final.

Marie Detruyer broke the deadlock for the host in the 31st minute.

The lead didn’t last long as Erin Cuthbert equalised for Scotland three minutes later.

Belgium can still top the log win a win over the Netherlands in their final group game.
