Pep Guardiola is counting on his midfield to withstand Newcastle’s high-intensity style, though uncertainty remains regarding Rodri’s involvement, as the midfielder has been managing ongoing injury issues throughout the current campaign.
Given the current transfer window, it makes sense that Manchester City is being connected to several midfielders, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson emerging as a key target.
According to David Ornstein, while Forest intends to keep Anderson for the remainder of the season, a summer move is much more likely. Ornstein noted that nearly every elite club is monitoring the midfielder, though he suggested Arsenal might be the only major side to pass on him due to their already crowded roster.
“Nottingham Forest have zero appetite to trade him right now. The summer is a different story — every player has their price.
“We’re hearing figures of £80-£100m, maybe even more.”

While Manchester United is reportedly interested in Anderson, their ability to challenge Manchester City for his signature may depend heavily on securing Champions League qualification.
The move would align with a growing trend among Premier League giants toward tactical physicality. At Arsenal, Mikel Arteta’s recruitment of Declan Rice underscores a commitment to power and presence in the squad. Similarly, Pep Guardiola has addressed the league’s physical demands by utilizing traditional center-backs in wide defensive roles.
Despite these adjustments, City’s midfield is often viewed as less physically imposing than Arsenal’s. Acquiring the Nottingham Forest standout could bridge that gap. Anderson offers the same elite athleticism as Rice and could provide vital defensive coverage, potentially masking some of Rodri’s vulnerabilities when City is out of possession.
