Aston Villa are on the verge of matching a club record if they secure an 11th consecutive victory across all competitions at Stamford Bridge.

A win would also extend their lead over Chelsea to 10 points in the league standings. Despite Villa’s incredible form—winning 16 of their previous 18 games—manager Unai Emery still considers the London side the favorites.

“In the table now we have some advantage on them but they are contender more than us to be in the top-five, top-four, top-three,” he said.

“Now we are top three, with Arsenal and Manchester City who are performing fantastic, like we are. But they are contenders and we are not.

“Of course, we are ambitious and we are not going to refuse nothing about how we are in the table and how next week we can get the challenge against Chelsea.

“They are favourites but we are going to play with the form we have and hopefully we can perform the game, getting our objective.”

After Saturday’s game, Villa travel to face league leaders Arsenal on Tuesday. Although only three points separate them from the top, Emery believes it is premature to view his side as title contenders.

He said: “Until the day 34 I am not going to speak about our objective and target at the end of the season in the table. This is a run for each match.”
