In Saturday’s 2-1 victory over FC Dallas, Emil Forsberg scored his first goal for New York Red Bulls in new MLS season with a well-executed penalty kick in the 30th minute.

After leading a counterattack, the Swedish No. 10 set up Lewis Morgan’s game-winning goal in the second half to give New York three points in their 2024 home opener.
“I think I saved it for home,” Forsberg joked post-match. “It’s better to score in front of our fans first time. So it felt good, an amazing feeling to score the first goal. A good feeling, a little bit of a stone releasing from my shoulders. I had two crossbars before.”
Forsberg left RB Leipzig, New York’s sister team in the German Bundesliga, in mid-December. Preseason, the Designated Player received the captain’s armband, ushering in a new era of excellence and leadership.
Forsberg leads by example and pulls the strings, and as of Matchday 4, RBNY is unbeaten (2W-0L-1D) and in the running for the Eastern Conference’s top spot.
“I’m happy we got the win, undefeated so far,” Forsberg said. “I think we’re taking steps every day. We didn’t play our best game in the second half, but we stood through, we fought for each other and these kinds of wins you accept them either way.”

Kevin Long, a centre back of Birmingham City in the English Championship, has joined Toronto FC, the team announced on Tuesday. His deal is set to expire in 2024, with an option in 2025.
Along with No. 1 SuperDraft choice Tyrese Spicer and Honduran international midfielder Deybi Flores, the 33-year-old former Irish international is Toronto’s third offseason addition.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kevin to the Toronto FC family,” head coach John Herdman said in a release. “Kevin’s experience will be a welcome addition to TFC’s back line. He’s here to help rebuild the club and is hungry for success.”
