Empoli raced to a two-goal lead in the first half to start a seemingly herculean task.

Chante Dompig set up Valeria Monterubbiano for Empoli’s opening goal in the ninth minute.

Six minutes later, Empoli increased its lead to two as once again assisted Cecilía Prugna for the second goal.

Juventus rallied back in the second half to force a draw when Lisa Boattin reduced the deficit in the 77th minute but Cristiana Girelli missed a gilt-edge chance of equalising as she missed from the penalty spot in the 80th minute.

Empoli with the result puts an end to Juventus’ series of being undefeated in 54 matches.
For the Bianconere, it is the first defeat in Serie A since March 2019.

Juventus still occupy the first position on the league table with 40 points but AS Roma has cut their lead to three points.

AS Roma reduced Juventus’ lead to three points after recording a 2-0 win against Inter Milan.

Alves da Silva Andressa gave the host the lead from the penalty spot in the 45th minute.

Manuela Guigliano in the 48th minute converted AS Roma’s second goal.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Stefania Tarenzi’s 32nd-minute goal was enough to hand Sampdoria a 0-1 win over Pomigliano.
