Manchester United secured their first win of the 2025/26 season in a dramatic 3-2 victory against Burnley. Bruno Fernandes scored the winning goal with a penalty in the 97th minute. This was only United’s fourth Premier League win in 14 matches at Old Trafford.

The victory provided some relief for United, who were under pressure following a shocking midweek cup loss to Grimsby Town and rumors about manager Ruben Amorim’s future.

The team started the game strong, with Martin Dúbravka making several early saves to stop shots from Leny Yoro, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo. Despite their early dominance, United felt hard done by when a penalty awarded for a foul on Mason Mount by Kyle Walker was overturned after a lengthy VAR review.
Undeterred by previous missed opportunities, Manchester United finally scored in the 27th minute, though it was a lucky break. After Casemiro’s shot ricocheted off the crossbar, the ball hit Burnley’s Josh Cullen and rolled into the net.
Shortly after, an injury to United’s Cunha gave Burnley a chance to retaliate, but former United player Hannibal Mejbri shot wide. United quickly regained control, with Mount hitting the crossbar with a header and Amad forcing a great save from Dúbravka.
Manchester United, managed by Scott Parker, was lucky to only be down by one goal at halftime. Just before the break, Amad had a great chance to score but missed an open net after a pass from Bryan Mbeumo. After halftime, United lost their momentum, and Burnley improved, which led to their equalizer.

Jacob Bruun Larsen crossed the ball from the right side, and Lyle Foster scored his first Premier League goal since April 2024. The tie didn’t last long, as United quickly scored again. Diogo Dalot received a pass from Joshua Zirkzee on the left and crossed it to Mbeumo, who scored his second goal in as many games and United’s first Premier League goal of the season.
In a chaotic turn of events, Foster’s goal was disallowed, and Fernandes narrowly missed a shot. The visitors capitalized on the frantic pace, with Jaidon Anthony scoring a close-range equalizer after a long throw-in caused a scramble.
Amorim’s men pushed hard for a win, but Benjamin Šeško failed to convert two key opportunities. Ultimately, the hosts were granted a penalty when Anthony fouled Amad. Fernandes, redeeming himself for a previous miss, scored from the spot to secure the win for United.
