EPL: Chelsea Squad Ravaged By Injuries Ahead Of Nottingham Forest Showdown

Written By Albert Echatah

Enzo Maresca is heading into this weekend’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest with a significant selection headache, as he could be without as many as eight Chelsea players due to injury.

More Details

Following the two-week international break, the Blues are facing a crucial fixture at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon, but they’ll likely be missing a host of key squad members.

Chelsea’s head coach will be missing some key players for the match in Nottingham, including Cole Palmer. The 23-year-old has been ruled out for the rest of the month due to a groin injury that has bothered him for much of the season.

Palmer has had a stop-start season, only appearing in four matches across all competitions. Fortunately, the injury is not expected to require surgery, and sources indicate he’s only likely to be sidelined for weeks rather than months.

Reece James pulled out of the England squad last week due to pain felt during the prior match against Liverpool. Sources indicate the injury is not serious, and his withdrawal was a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, Enzo Fernández withdrew from the Argentina squad after their win against Venezuela due to an unspecified injury. The full extent of his injury is currently unknown, but the manager, Maresca, is expected to provide an update during Friday’s press conference.

Andrey Santos and Tosin Adarabioyo were sidelined with muscular injuries for Chelsea’s final two matches before the international break. While manager Maresca had expressed optimism about their return after the break, neither player has appeared in recent club training photos, leaving their availability unclear.

Looking at other players, Liam Delap is expected to return next month as he recovers from a hamstring injury he sustained in late August. However, Levi Colwill faces a much longer recovery, as a pre-season ACL injury means he’s projected to miss most of the current campaign.

Dario Essugo is currently sidelined with a thigh injury sustained during the last international break. He required surgery last month and may not return to the pitch until December.
