EPL: Pochettino Confirms Palmer As Chelsea’s First Penalty Taker
Written by Albert Echatah
Mauricio Pochettino has made it clear that Cole Palmer is now Chelsea’s go-to penalty taker.
More Details
The summer acquisition from Manchester City scored his first goal for his new team against Burnley earlier this month from the penalty spot. The previous weekend, in a 2-2 draw with Arsenal, he scored again from 12 yards out.
Palmer was seen disputing with Raheem Sterling over who should take the blame before he calmly took a penalty and sent David Raya the wrong way. The Englishman is the right man for the job according to Pochettino.
Pochettino said: ‘There are a few players who can take the penalty. It’s about their feelings. As a coaching staff we give them the responsibility to decide on the pitch.
‘It’s not only one player, that this player is going to be in charge. It shows that Cole was ready to take the two penalties he took.
‘Normally it is going to be him if he is on the pitch. But if not I’d be happy with Raheem, with Nico (Jackson).

Meanwhile…
Erik ten Hag is anxious to prevent Jadon Sancho from making a “empty gesture,” therefore Manchester United is apparently willing to accept a “significant loss” on him.
Sancho has a disruptive impact on the rest of United’s team, according to manager Ten Hag, who is determined to get rid of the winger.
This season, Sancho and Ten Hag had a nasty falling out, with the Dutchman publicly criticizing his player in the media for his lack of effort in practice. After spending £73 million on him in 2021, United is now willing to suffer a “significant loss” on the player in the January transfer window.
