The match at the Stadium of Light began with immediate intensity. Sunderland’s Chemsdine Talbi nearly scored within the first minute, but it was Bournemouth who capitalized quickly. Just seven minutes in, Amine Adli scored his first Premier League goal, reacting fastest to turn in a rebound after Evanilson’s initial shot, set up by Antoine Semenyo, hit the post.
Despite an encouraging start from Sunderland, the Black Cats soon found themselves two goals down courtesy of a spectacular long-range effort from Tyler Adams. The American international intercepted the ball in midfield and audaciously struck it from inside the center circle, brilliantly lobbing the retreating goalkeeper, Robin Roefs.
Sunderland remained resolute and managed to pull a goal back on the half-hour mark. Alex Scott fouled Reinildo Mandava in the penalty area, allowing Enzo Le Fée to convert the resulting spot-kick with an unstoppable strike, halving the deficit.
The thrilling contest continued right after the break as Sunderland wasted no time in finding the equalizer in the 46th minute.

A clever pass from Granit Xhaka set up Bertrand Traoré, who buried a low shot in at the near post to net his first goal for Sunderland. Bournemouth thought they had immediately retaken the lead, but Evanilson’s tap-in was disallowed for offside.
In a fast-paced, evenly matched contest with numerous scoring opportunities for both teams, Sunderland eventually secured a narrow victory. The decisive goal came in the 69th minute when substitute Brobbey headed in a corner delivered by Le Fée. Although Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola made changes to find an equalizer, the home side Sunderland held on for the 1-0 win. Adding to Bournemouth’s frustration, Lewis Cook received a late red card for throwing an elbow.
Sunderland’s win, which ended their three-game winless run (two draws, one loss), was a significant one, lifting Régis Le Bris’ team back into the Premier League top four, defying expectations. Conversely, the loss continues a poor run for Bournemouth under Iraola, who have now won just one of their last six league matches (two draws, three losses) and dropped to ninth place.
