Five weeks ago, Omar Berrada, the CEO of Manchester United, sat in the opulent Old Trafford boardroom and firmly endorsed Erik ten Hag.

“Erik has our full backing,” said Berrada. “We’re going to continue working very closely with him to help him get the best results.”

Dan Ashworth, United’s recently hired sporting director, sat next to Berrada and agreed with his colleague about supporting Ten Hag.
“I see my job is to support him in every way I possibly can,” said Ashworth. “To allow him to fully focus on the training pitch and the tactical plan to deliver success for Manchester United.”
Today’s meeting at United’s London offices with the football leadership team (Berrada, Ashworth, and technical director Jason Wilcox) will test that support.
Ten Hag’s fate will be finally decided by a five-member team that includes United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his right-hand man, Sir Dave Brailsford.

Shortly following Berrada and Ashworth’s demonstration of solidarity with Ten Hag, United suffered a 3-0 defeat at home against fierce rivals Liverpool.
Since then, the Dutchman’s situation has gotten worse at the club. With eight points from seven games, which is their worst start to a Premier League season, and a goal differential of minus three, United is now sitting in 14th place in the standings.
Ten Hag reiterated his stance following Sunday’s pathetic 0-0 draw at Villa Park: he and the United leadership thought the same way, have the same long-term goals, and decided when they started working together in the summer that there wouldn’t be a quick cure for the team’s issues.
