Although past summers have demonstrated that plans do not always materialize, Barcelona has settled on one of its promising defenders as part of their squad planning for the upcoming campaign. Eric Garcia might have played his final game for the team while on loan at Girona.

More Details

The fact that Chadi Riad is now on loan at Real Betis suggests that Barcelona may use their buyback clause which means that central defense minutes will once again be in high demand come season’s end. Although Barcelona would be inclined to move one of Andreas Christensen, Ronald Araujo, or Jules Kounde, Inigo Martinez appears to be the solution and players like Pau Cubarsi and Mikayil Faye are also pressing in the Barca Atletic side.

Garcia, however, is left with no room. With Girona tied for first place in La Liga, he has shown himself to be a powerful and capable player reviving expectations that he may be on the road to become a premier defender. According to Sport, Barcelona is happy about this and plans to profit from Garcia as a consequence. His estimated cost will be €15 million.

Garcia struggled to make an impression in the starting lineup after joining on a free transfer from Manchester City in 2021. Garcia will still be under contract in two years by the summer of 2024, so if they don’t think he can be a starting candidate, it’s time to sell.

It doesn’t seem likely that Michel Sanchez would have an opportunity to increase his value somewhere else, given the way Girona is playing and the work he is doing with his players.

Sergio Ramos has demanded an improvement from his Sevilla teammates at the start of 2024 after the Andalucians lost 1-0 away to rivals Atletico Madrid on December 23 capping off a dismal 2023 run in La Liga.

With just three victories since the beginning of the season, the loss drops Sevilla to 15th place in the La Liga standings and Diego Alonso has already been replaced by Quique Sanchez Flores.

Sevilla has already qualified out of the group stages of the Champions League and will not play in the Europa League in 2024.

Ramos is aware that in order to stay out of the relegation zone, the squad must make significant progress in the upcoming months. Since 2001, Sevilla has been a constant presence in the top division of Spain; in fact, since 1975, they have only missed three seasons in La Liga.

“We battled until the very end, even if it’s not how we intended the year to conclude. Our current priorities include working and expanding in 2024. We’ll work together to improve the things that need to be done”.

Ramos and Flores will have a holiday until the end of December before playing Athletic Club on January 4 due to La Liga being suspended until the beginning of 2024.
