Eric Quill will return to FC Dallas as head coach ahead of the 2025 Major League Soccer season, the team announced Wednesday.

More Details

Quill was the head coach of North Texas SC, their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, from 2019 to 21. North Texas won the first-ever USL League One championship in 2019 under Quill’s leadership, and he was named USL League One Coach of the Year.

“We are so excited to welcome Eric Quill back to the FC Dallas family,” said club chairman and CEO Clark Hunt. “Eric is a championship-caliber coach who has experience leading teams to the top of the table.

“He has a deep knowledge of the game built over three decades as a player and coach at the collegiate, professional, and national team levels, and his keen focus on player development makes him an excellent fit to lead FC Dallas.”

After leading New Mexico United to the USL Championship as head coach, Quill now joins FCD. He guided New Mexico to the USL Championship Western Conference semifinals and the US Open Cup quarterfinals in 2024.

Prior to that, Quill served as an assistant coach for the Columbus Crew from 2021–2023. He was employed by Caleb Porter, the manager of the New England Revolution, as well as Wilfried Nancy.

After firing Nico Estévez, who is now the coach of Austin FC, in June, Dallas had a coach vacancy.

After hiring Peter Luccin as their temporary coach, they missed the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs and finished 11th in the Western Conference (41 points; 11W-15L-8D).

During his tenure at North Texas, Quill collaborated closely with FC Dallas academy products Tanner Tessmann, Bryan Reynolds, and Ricardo Pepi, all of whom were standouts for the US men’s national team. The US U-15 and U-19 national teams have had him as an assistant in the past.
