Eriksen Could Return To The Premier League

Former Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen could be on his way back to England following the decision to terminate his contract with Inter Milan on mutual agreement December last year.

More Details

Eriksen has not played since he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match with Finland on June 12 last year but he is expected to begin training with a top-flight team this month ahead of a potential return to competitive action, with Premier League clubs showing an interest in the Danish star.

The 29-year-old had suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening Euro 2020 clash against Finland in June 2021.

He was not allowed to play in Serie A with hear defibrillator implanted, so the Serie A giants and the former Tottenham star had to terminate their agreement.

The decision “had nothing to do with Inter,” the player’s agent Martin Schoots said in an interview with De Telegraaf as quoted by FCInternews.it.

“Everyone has to follow rules that have been in place for many years. After the incident, I knew that Italy was a dead end so I began talks with our lawyers in Italy.”

Eriksen has been training with his former club Odense in Denmark, but his future in football is still uncertain.

He could continue playing in the Dutch Eredivisie and the English Premier League.

Current Spurs boss Antonio Conte was in charge of Inter at the time and pushed hard for the club to sign Eriksen in a deal worth about £17million.

Eriksen excelled for Ajax before his move to Spurs in 2013, having moved to the Dutch giants from Odense in his homeland in 2008.

At Ajax, he was the first player in the history of the club to win five major trophies by the age of 21, including three league titles.

“Christian is very ambitious,” added Schoots. “Italy is one of the only countries with these regulations.

“In other countries it is very different. His contract with Inter has been terminated and now we can look forward.”

“He should be the first one to talk about his ambitions and he will do that very soon.”

In recent weeks, Eriksen has spent time at Swiss club Chiasso, where he has been working alone in preparation for a return to group training elsewhere. He is still based in Milan, about an hour’s drive away.

A number of Premier League teams are interested in signing the Danish star on a free transfer.

Eriksen joined Inter on a permanent transfer from Tottenham in January 2020. He scored eight goals in 60 appearances with the Nerazzurri and won the Serie A title in 2020-21.

Meanwhile…

Andrea Conti is set to join Empoli on a permanent deal from Milan and the Rossoneri are considering the Tuscans’ defender Mattia Viti for the summer.

The 19-year-old made his Serie A debut under Aurelio Andreazzoli this term and has played nine games across all competitions.

He is regarded as one of the most promising defenders in Italy and according to Calciomercato.com, Empoli have rejected a €15m bid from Atalanta.

Fiorentina, Napoli and Milan are also monitoring the Italian centre-back with the Rossoneri who could use Andrea Conti to sweeten the deal.

The former Atalanta full-back is set to join the Tuscans on a permanent deal in January and the Rossoneri will try to get an option to sign Viti at the end of the season.

The Rossoneri are looking for a replacement for the injured Simon Kjaer and have made Lille defender Sven Botman their priority target for the winter transfer window.
