Euro 2022: Germany Wants To Make It Nine

We already saw the Lionesses of England roar into the Euros final with a 4-0 win over Sweden, and on Wednesday we found out which formidable opponent will meet them.
More Details
Germany took another step forward in their excellent tournament, defeating France 2-1 behind a brace from Golden Boot candidate Alexandra Popp.
While a win on Sunday would mark England’s first major championship win, Germany has been here many times.
They’ve won the Euros eight times, (1989, 1991,1995, 1997, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2013), and are one of the only nations in the world to have titles in both the World Cup (2003, 2007) and Olympics (2016).
The Germany-France semifinal on Wednesday repeated history between the two nations.
France has never won a major tournament, and their semifinal appearance this year was their best finish at the Euros.

The first half was a cagey affair until the final five minutes when Popp scored to put Germany ahead before Kadidiatou Diani forced an own goal by German keeper Merle Frohms.
France came out strong in the second half, but Germany weathered the storm until a towering header from Popp put her team ahead permanently.
France’s history of futility continues into 2023, but they have some young, exciting talent who will be dangerous in Australia and New Zealand.
Meanwhile…
But if any team can defeat England this year, it’s this Germany squad.
The best two teams have made it to the final, and now it’s time to see who can wrap the summer up with a win.

England’s 4-0 semi-final demolition of Sweden justifiably raised hopes of a first-ever major tournament victory ahead of this European Championship final against Germany.
Sure to be roared on by a passionate home crowd, they have only conceded once all tournament and showed against the Swedes that they are both defensively sound and ruthless enough to take their chances when presented.
Germany’s experience could tell in their record ninth European Championship appearance (one as West Germany) having won all eight previous attempts, including one against England by a thumping 6-2 scoreline back in 2009.
Although Germany’s 2-1 semi-final win over France saw them concede for the first time in the tournament, they are used to setting the pace, opening the scoring in their last six internationals (six wins).
