The world of football was still reeling from the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic when a group of 12 clubs announced the creation of a new league called the European Super League, where the top European giants come together and play against each other.

Hardly had the news settled before it was greeted with backlash especially from the English fans who viewed the league as a form of segregation, forcing most of the clubs involved to back out except Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus.

Now, the president of the Super League, who also serves as the president of Real Madrid has come out to defend the creation of the Super League saying it wasn’t a hasty decision but one that has been in the works for two years. He reiterated the need for the Super League as the present format is not sustainable for the top clubs.

He also reiterated that the new league was supposed to bring the fans closer as many where losing interest in the game while also hitting out at UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin. With the matter still in court, it is yet to be seen if UEFA will see through with its threat of excluding the three clubs yet to denounce their membership of the now defunct league from their competition.
