Everton’s Branthwaite Signs Four-Year Contract Extension

Written by Albert Echatah

Despite rumors linking Jarrad Branthwaite to Manchester United and Manchester City, Branthwaite has signed a new long-term contract with Everton.

More Details

First mentioned in connection with United in the summer, the talented young defender was mentioned once more this week with Erik ten Hag seeking to sign him in January due to the team’s injury woes.

The center-back who assisted England in winning the U21 Euros over the summer was another player City was thought to be monitoring. However, after it was revealed on Friday that Branthwaite had signed a new contract keeping him at Everton until 2027, any transfer for him has just become less likely – and more expensive.

‘The stature of the Club, how much of a family it is at Everton and how I just love playing here in front of the fans were key reasons for me signing,’ the 21-year-old told evertontv. To sign this new contract was to show the commitment I have for the Club and show how much it means to me to play for Everton. Since I joined, I’ve felt a connection with the Club.

‘The fans have been really good with me. For the first game I played, the cheer I got when my name was read out just gave me massive confidence to go out there and play my best game.

‘When the manager [Sean Dyche] has full confidence in you, it makes you feel like you’re welcome here and I know I can go on the pitch when the manager puts me out there and he has full belief in me. It’s a massive factor in signing the contract.’

Meanwhile…

Ivan Perisic of Tottenham has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury less than a week before Sunday’s North London Derby against Arsenal.

The versatile Croatian has appeared as a substitute in each of Spurs’ five Premier League games so far this season and contributed an assist in the team’s thrilling 2-1 victory against Sheffield United the previous time out.

‘We can confirm that Ivan Perisic has suffered a complex Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee,’ Tottenham posted on Twitter.
