Written by Albert Echatah

Barcelona left-back Marcos Alonso is being lined up for a sensational Premier League return.

More Details

Before the transfer deadline, Manchester United is reportedly planning to make a move for Marcos Alonso. After Luke Shaw sustained a muscular injury that will keep him out for several months, the Red Devils are searching the market for cover.

Back-up Tyrell Malacia, who suffered a setback last season and was unable to recover from it, is also a long-term casualty. Additionally, three left backs are reportedly on United’s shortlist.

The first is Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, who joined for £65 million from Brighton but is not on Mauricio Pochettino’s radar. Sergio Reguilon of Tottenham is second on United’s list and will also have trouble getting playing time at his present club this season.

However, the Telegraph says that Alonso is the third person Erik ten Hag is considering. After six seasons at Chelsea, the Spaniard spent the last year at Barcelona, where he helped them win the LaLiga championship.

Additionally, despite still being under contract with the Catalans, he hasn’t registered for the upcoming campaign because of Financial Fair Play requirements. Barcelona continues to struggle with economic issues, the Catalan giants will be delighted to let Alonso go.

In their Premier League match on Sunday night, 10-men Liverpool defeated Newcastle after mounting an incredible comeback at St. James’ Park.

Trent Alexander-Arnold had a shaky start, and after receiving a yellow card before fouling Anthony Gordon, the right-back might have been sent out.

The Englishman picked his pocket, though, and defeated Alisson to put Newcastle in the lead in the first half. A few minutes later, Alexander Isak was through on goal when Virgil Van Dijk hauled him down, and the Liverpool captain was sent out with a simple red card.
