FA Cup: Klopp Handed Double Injury Boost Ahead Of Norwich Clash

In Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round match against Norwich City, Dominik Szoboszlai and Trent Alexander-Arnold both have a “chance” to make their injury comebacks, according to head coach Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool.

Since Szoboszlai suffered a hamstring injury during the Reds’ 4-2 Premier League victory over Newcastle United on New Year’s Day, neither player has been seen in action for a few weeks.

In the meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold was the star of Liverpool’s 2-0 victory against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round. However, it was later discovered that the right-back had hyperextended his knee in the match at the Emirates and would miss several weeks of action.

Both players missed Wednesday’s 1-1 EFL Cup semi-final second-leg tie at Craven Cottage against Fulham, where Klopp’s team won 3-2 on aggregate to set up a thrilling final against Chelsea. Andrew Robertson, meanwhile, was once again benched in West London.

In the pregame press conference on Thursday, Klopp gave updates on the three players, with the left-back making his first appearance in the matchday squad since he injured his shoulder while playing for Scotland in October.

The Liverpool manager has acknowledged that he may need to make a last-minute decision on Alexander-Arnold, but he hasn’t completely ruled out his vice captain for the Norwich game despite his confidence in Robertson and Szoboszlai’s fitness for action.

Joel Matip, Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak, Thiago Alcantara, and Kostas Tsimikas are among the long-term patients in the treatment room for Liverpool, even though Robertson, Szoboszlai, and Alexander-Arnold are all close to making their first-team comebacks.

Meanwhile…

Jadon Sancho has joined Borussia Dortmund on loan from Manchester United for the remainder of the 2023–24 campaign.

Two and a half years have passed since the England international permanently switched to the Red Devils, who paid £73 million for his services in the summer of 2021.

“Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho has rejoined former club Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season,” the Red Devils said in a statement. “The England international of 23 caps leaves with our best wishes for the remainder of this season.”
