FC Barcelona Women Announce Jonatan Giraldez’s Successor

With the departure of Jonathan Giraldez to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) where he will be the head coach Washington Spirit, FC Barcelona has announced his replacement.

The European champions will start a new era when the 2024/2025 season get underway with the announcement of Pere Romeu.
Romeu replaces Giraldez and has signed a contract with the Catalan side till 2026. He served as Giraldez’s assistant.
“I am very excited. I have a very ambitious challenge. I have been with the team for three seasons, I know their day-to-day, and I am eager to take over,” the new coach said after putting pen to paper.
It will a big shoe to wear for Romeu after the former coach won all available titles before his departure.
Giráldez had a successful season with the Spanish side, having won UEFA Women's Champions League, Copa de la Reina, Supercopa, and Liga F in his final season to complete a lauded Quadruple.
Romeu hopes to replicate this feat when the season gets underway.

Five months after announcing that the Washington Spirit had hired Barcelona Femení coach Jonatan Giráldez as the team's new head coach, Giráldez has joined the club in Washington, DC.
While Giráldez was finishing out his tenure in Europe, Adrián González filled in as Spirit interim head coach.

González has also seen success, leading the team to its third-place standing through 13 games.
“I’m thrilled to join the Spirit and begin this next chapter with the club,” Giráldez said in an official team statement.
“To be part of the vision Michele Kang has for the Spirit and women’s soccer globally is an exciting opportunity.”
Giráldez has worked at Barcelona since 2019, initially coming on as an assistant coach before moving up to head coach in 2021.
