During the match, the new addition was on target, netting his first goal for the club with a stunning strike to tie the game up at 1-1 in the first half.

Athletic Bilbao, on the other hand, won 3-2 in extra time to knock Barca out of the competition and advance to the quarter-finals.

Torres offered his thoughts after the match and says Barca have the players to overcome what’s been a difficult season so far for the Catalans.

“This has been hard. But we have to keep working and move on. We will overcome this bad streak. I think we played well but made individual mistakes. We are on the right track and we have to congratulate Athletic,” he said.

“We have to keep working and the results will come. The season is complicated, but we have players to get it through and we’ll get it through.

“We are recovering people who had been injured for a long time. Ansu has relapsed again. We have to keep working and the results will come.”

La Blaugrana now just have La Liga and the Europa League to focus on for the rest of the 2021-22 season. Up next is a trip to Alaves on Sunday with a win really needed after defeats to Athletic and Real Madrid.

Meanwhile…

Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele has broken his silence after being told to leave the club by director of football Mateu Alemany after failing to agree a new contract.

The Frenchman has said nothing about his future throughout the whole saga but has now published a lengthy post on social media offering some insight into his stance.

Dembele doesn’t give too much away but says he will not be blackmailed by Barcelona and makes it clear that he fully supports his agent Moussa Sissoko.

Dembele’s post also comes after Barcelona were warned by the Professional Footballers Association (AFE) in Spain about their treatment of Dembele. The AFE issued a statement saying Barca may be breaking the law if they try to pressurize the forward.
