Ferrari Gets A 1-2 In The First Race Of The Season

The signs were there, we saw it in the pre testing and in the first race of the season in Bahrain, the Ferrari racing team led by Charles Leclerc surged to a first and second win on Sunday.

Charles Leclerc won the race followed by teammate Carlos Sainz while Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton finished third to complete the podium finish.

However, it was not easy you read, the French driver had to fight it off with defending champion Max Verstappen as both drivers switched positions several times before the Ferrari driver got clear.
Unfortunately, safety car period and then reliability problems forced Verstappen’s retirement promoting Carlos Sainz to second. “I’m so happy. We could not have hoped for better. The past two years have not been easy. It’s great to be back on top” Leclerc said after the historic win.
George Russell of Mercedes occupied the fourth position while Haas driver, Kevin Magnussen on his return to F1 finished fifth.

Seven-time champion, Lewis Hamilton who struggled to make his 183 podium finish after what seemed a lucky day for the Mercedes team following a challenging time for the Red Bull drivers.
Hamilton was heading for fifth place until his rival Max Verstappen and his teammate, Perez had crises with their cars which made them retire five laps to the end of the race. Lewis says their struggle is a result of their car.

“The thing is with our car, we have a car that’s bouncing a lot everywhere,” said Hamilton. “It’s not just in a straight line. We have very poor rear end through all the low-speed corners and all the medium-speed corners.”
“The only place that is generally quite good is, relatively, in the high [speed corners] and then we are very slow in the straight line. So, I don’t know if it’s drag or if it’s power, we haven’t figured that out yet.
“The others, we cannot keep up with them, even with the DRS. We do have a lot of work, and what that means is that you are just sliding a lot on the rear, and the tyres just get hotter and hotter and they degrade. So that’s where we’ve got a lot of [performance] to try and catch up on.” Next race is the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix.
