FIFA Suspend Russia From All Football Competitions

The World football ruling body, Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) following the footsteps of the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) has suspended Russia from all football competitions.

FIFA confirmed this in a release on Monday, February 28, 2022.

“Following the initial decisions adopted by the FIFA Council and the UEFA Executive Committee, which envisaged the adoption of additional measures, FIFA and UEFA have decided together that all Russian teams, whether national representative teams or club teams, shall be suspended from participation in both FIFA and UEFA competitions until further notice.”

These decisions were adopted by the Bureau of the FIFA Council and the Executive Committee of UEFA, respectively the highest decision-making bodies of both institutions on such urgent matters.


“Football is fully united here and in full solidarity with all the people affected in Ukraine. Both Presidents hope that the situation in Ukraine will improve significantly and rapidly so that football can again be a vector for unity and peace amongst people.”


FIFA reiterated its condemnation of the use of force by Russia in its invasion of Ukraine.

According to FIFA, violence is never a solution and FIFA expresses its deepest solidarity to all people affected by what is happening in Ukraine.

FIFA calls for the urgent restoration of peace and for constructive dialogue to commence immediately.

FIFA remains in close contact with the Ukrainian Association of Footballers and members of the Ukrainian football community who have been requesting support to leave the country for as long as the current conflict persists.
