Written by Oluwadamilola Olaleye
Arsenal have been cleared as the favorites to land Martin Zubimendi despite scare from Real Madrid. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently at the final stages of completing the deal which includes the €60m release clause payment structure as they are unwilling to pay in one huge lump with Real Sociedad willing to explore every favorable option to aid the transfer.
More Details
After turning down a move to Liverpool last summer, Martin Zubimendi is now set to embark on his Premier League journey with Arsenal. While fans have grown anxious waiting for an official announcement, there has been no real cause for concern despite late interest from Real Madrid.
The delay is largely administrative, with Real Sociedad keen to register the transfer in the 2025–26 financial year. Zubimendi reportedly flew to London earlier this month to finalise the details, and according to Marca, the deal is expected to be confirmed later this week once the Spanish summer transfer window opens, aligning with La Real’s financial timeline.

The final terms of Martin Zubimendi’s transfer confirms that Arsenal will pay slightly above his €60 million release clause to Real Sociedad. While the 26-year-old’s buyout fee was fixed, the Premier League club agreed to a 10% premium, bringing the total to around €66 million in order to secure a more flexible payment structure.

Arsenal were eager to avoid a lump-sum payment, and the revised arrangement allows them to spread the cost over time, a compromise that ultimately suited all parties involved.
The Real Sociedad midfielder has travelled to London on Sunday to finalise his move to Arsenal, marking the final steps of a long-anticipated transfer. A report featuring a photo of Zubimendi at the airport accompanied by a group of students heading to England suggests that the official announcement is expected in early July.
According to journalist Kike Marin, Monday will be Zubimendi’s last day as a Real Sociedad player, with the deal set to be confirmed on Tuesday. The transfer will see Arsenal pay €66 million (£56.5 million) to secure the highly rated midfielder’s services.
