Other clubs around Europe have made far more than slight breaches of the financial rules, but it was known that the Giallorossi were at significant risk of falling foul of their settlement agreement if they didn’t make significant sales in the final 24 hours before the June 30 deadline.

Despite selling Tammy Abraham to Besiktas, it wasn’t enough to save them. Consequently, with the exit of Abraham and the expected exit of Eldor Shomurodov this summer, they will be left with just Artem Dovbyk in attack, hence they want to bring in at least one more striker.

Hence, they’re looking at a number of targets, with two prominent names Nikola Krstovic and Evan Ferguson. The capital city club are reportedly looking to hijack Leeds United’s move for Lecce striker, Krstovic, according to the report from Corriere dello Sport.

Roma had identified the Montenegro striker as a key target as it was further revealed that the EPL club had already advanced in talks to sign the player from Lecce but that he is prepared to put discussions on hold for the possibility of instead playing in the Italian capital.

Krstovic wants to prioritise a move within Serie A and wishes to compete in European competitions and of course Gasperini is reportedly a fan of the player and believes he would complement Paulo Dybala and Dovbyk well, but there is the financial aspect of the deal to consider.

Lecce, however, are demanding around €25m for the player, which could hand the advantage back to Leeds because of Roma’s financial situation. In a related development, Roma and Atalanta are both reportedly interested in signing Brighton forward, Ferguson.

The Premier League side have set his price tag at €25m and according to a separate report from Relevo, Roma are also keen on signing the Irish striker too, while Atalanta have also been linked, should Mateo Retegui depart the club for the middle east this summer.

The Bergamo-based club are also looking at Udinese’s Lorenzo Lucca but the Italian forward prefers a move to Napoli or Juventus. This may have forced Atalanta to look elsewhere and Brighton have reportedly lowered their price dramatically for the Irishman.

At one point, it is suggested the South coast club were only willing to entertain offers of €60 million or more – but after a difficult couple of seasons, the price has been cut In half and whilst no official contact for Ferguson has been made yet, the club are keeping a close eye on him.

Retegui had a strong 2024-25 campaign; finishing as Serie A top scorer and the Italian striker has therefore been linked with a big-money move to Saudi Pro League sides (Al Quadisiyah especially) and AC Milan. The reports suggest that If Retegui were to leave, Ferguson could be a potential replacement.
