Folllowing In The Steps Of Gabriel Jesus And Zinchenko, Mikel Arteta Wants Another Manchester City Star In The Summer

Written By Onyeka Daniel

With few games to go until the end of the English Premier League, its looking more likely that Arsenal will lose out on the EPL title to defending Champions, Manchester City in the title race after leading the table for a better part of the season.

More Details

Consequently, the Gunners have resolved to equip the squad for next season as they prepare to return to European elite competition, the UCL. Manchester City defender, Joao Cancelo is the player that Arteta has asked the club management to sign in the summer to help beef up the squad.

Of course, they are no stranger to signing players from City with Gabriel Jesus and Oleksander Zinchenko and the two players were very instrumental to their fine form this season that saw them mount a title charge at an early stage if the season.

Cancelo fell out of favour with Pep Guardiola at City before joining German side, Bayern Munich during the January transfer window. He faces an uncertain future at City and could very well be on his way out of the reigning Premier League champions in the summer.

Report has it that Arsenal are keen on the 28-years old and Arteta feels he would suit their current style of City. With the Coach being forced to play several players out of position this season with Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu filling the right-back spot despite playing as centre-backs at their previous club.

The duo have worked together in the past when the Arsenal boss was assistant to Guardiola at City. Although he has previously stated he would be open to a return, Cancelo is ‘unlikely’ to be a part of the first team squad in Manchester next season.

Bayern have the option to make his move permanent for a fee of around £61million upon the expiration of his loan this summer. The Bundesliga giants want to keep him at the club, but want to negotiate on the initially agreed fee, with Barcelona and Real Madrid also said to be interested in a potential move.

Cancelo has featured 18 times for Bayern during his loan spell so far, scoring one goal and assisting a further five. Two of his appearances have come against his parent club in the Champions League quarter-finals. He was booed on his return to the Etihad Stadium for the first leg, coming on as a substitute late on in City’s 3-0 win.

A move to Arsenal would likely see him revitalise his Premier League career, having already won two titles in the English top flight and he may prove to be the missing piece for Arsenal to help them win their first League title since Arsene Wenger’s invincible squad did it for the Gunners last.

Meanwhile…

Tottenham Hotspur could be eyeing a move for Fulham coach, Marco Silva in their search for a new manager for next season but will face competition from fellow EPL side, West Ham for hos signature.

Silva has really rebuilt his reputation with Fulham. The 45-year-old was dented by his struggles at Everton but has shown his ability as a manager at Craven Cottage. The report claims that Silva actually has a £6million release clause in his contract, meaning any interested club can take him away from Fulham for a set fee.

Fulham are closing in on a top-half finish and according to a report from the Sun in March, it is claimed that Silva had become a top target for Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy.

Spurs are still looking for a new permanent manager and Silva could be their man and they would have no problem paying his release clause of course, but they are not alone. David Moyes has been linked with a summer exit although nothing has been confirmed about his future just yet.

West Ham could look a little closer to home though with Silva now understood to be a prime candidate. That would involve Silva leaving Fulham for a move across London, which may not go down too well with the club.
